About MeHi! I am Linda Abdelsayed, a California Licensed Psychologist (PSY 25557). I have been practicing since 2005. I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in family psychology from Azusa Pacific University. During my doctorate program, my years of training focused on working with children to older adults struggling with chronic and severe mental illness. Later in my career, I moved into work as an adjunct professor for undergrad and graduate psychology at APU and a graduate seminary, as well as a staff clinical psychologist for APU’s University Counseling Center for 8 years. During that time, I specialized in working with young adults working through life's gamete of hardships such as managing life’s transitions, processing trauma, spiritual formation and managing emerging relationship concerns.
Today, this breadth in training gives me an edge on the best scientifically proven methods and practices with the creativity and flexibility to tailor our work to your specific needs and desired changes. I have seen it all and I can help you. Together we can transform your difficult experiences into new life and purpose! I would love to work with you in my private practice office. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. |
My Theory |
I ascribe to two theories of the human psyche. The first theory is Family Systems, which assumes that people are inseparable from family-of-origin and their current network of relationship and environment. Therefore, understanding one's entire macrosystem is crucial to understanding their current self. The second theory is Cognitive Behavioral. This is an approach that posits that people's internal processes - thoughts, behaviors and feelings - all interact and impact one another. Thus, to promote change, therapy should emphasize increased insight and self-awareness into these internal processes.

My Approach |
My overall approach is to address your immediate concerns and engage in problem-solving with you. This will look different for each person, based on your unique self. I do this by working with clients in a holistic manner. This means I want to help you work toward the best possible whole you - incorporating your best academic, vocational, family, relationship, spiritual, emotional, and, physical you! This can be done in so many ways. Research shows that mindfulness exercises, relaxation techniques, developing new coping tools, and more effective communication skills, help people achieve their therapy goals and work toward inner healing. Another avenue to promote change is by going deeper (should you choose to do so) -- to identify the meaning and origin behind your choices and behavior, such as exploring your family-of-origin, background and core beliefs/values. My approach is one that uses scientifically proven, modern methodologies with a heart of empathy, genuineness, acceptance and hope.
